The Green Leadership Institute is offering 1 scholarship for residential housing at
Gelston Castle Estate in Jordanville, NY sponsored by Safflyn Corporation.
Live on a carbon‐neutral Estate where Presidents vacationed and luminaries retreated!
The program invites working Artist of all mediums to apply.
The Program is an opportunity to live and work on an Historic Estate that is
currently a sustainable development. The scholarship provides for residence on the Estate for
the semester applied. A limited number of applications will be accepted for the full school year.
Gelston Castle Estate, the historic 330‐acre private retreat of Presidents James Monroe,
Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt is a carbon‐neutral development of Safflyn
Corporation.
In exchange for receiving free residence, the Resident will be required to work with
staff on Estate management and provide artistic input. Resident artists will have the
opportunity to learn about sustainable living, green building and low impact planning during a
seasonal semester on the Estate grounds.
The program is offered for seasonal semesters. Applications will be accepted on rolling
basis and housing will begin on the following basis:
• Fall Season – September 1st
• Spring Season – December 15th
• Summer Season – April 25th
The program is valued at $10 thousand dollars in Residential living
assistance per Season and there is 1 available seat per season.
Applicants are required to write a maximum 75 words each on the following (2)
questions:
1. What role should artistic expression have in the planning of future cities, towns
and villages?
2. How can artistic development offer business and communities more sustainable economic
development?
